Higham Lane School, located in Nuneaton, has temporarily suspended its activities following a cyber attack that impacted essential IT systems. Catering to approximately 1,400 students aged between 11 and 18 and part of the Central England Academy Trust, the school closed on Monday and plans to remain closed until Wednesday.
In an official statement, the academy noted that the closure is a precautionary measure as investigations are conducted. Both authorities and cybersecurity professionals are actively engaged in restoring the systems as efficiently and safely as possible.
The school swiftly enacted its incident response plan, which involved securing IT infrastructure and collaborating with independent cybersecurity experts to probe the breach. Parents were informed that relevant authorities have been alerted and that the school is cooperating fully with all involved agencies.
The decision to close, described as "challenging" but essential based on external expert guidance, was communicated in a letter to parents. Students and staff have been instructed not to enter any school systems, including Google Classroom and SharePoint, until further notice.
While the school reassured those who have used school login credentials that there is no immediate threat, access has been temporarily limited to prioritize safety during the ongoing investigation.
Higham Lane School reiterated its commitment to the privacy and security of its community. Updates will be communicated to families as more information becomes available.
