International Crime Groups Prey on Canadian Residences

Law enforcement officials are sounding the alarm about international theft syndicates operating within Canada. Identified as South American Theft Groups (SATGs), these organizations legally enter the nation for brief stints to execute planned burglaries of homes and retail establishments.

Investigations have revealed that operations similar to SATGs are active in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, and Alberta. Recent apprehensions and data from locations like Ottawa, the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, Vancouver, and Calgary expose trends indicative of organized, high-stakes theft activities.

These gangs typically target high-value and easily transportable items such as jewelry, luxury watches, cash, branded goods, and compact safes. The stolen items are often promptly sold or exported, complicating recovery efforts.

Authorities particularly warn that residences adjacent to parks, trails, or greenbelt areas are more vulnerable, as these locations offer easy access while avoiding detection. Residents are encouraged to secure all doors and windows, employ security alarms, install outdoor motion detectors, set up doorbell or surveillance cameras, and enlist the help of a trusted neighbor during absences.

Officials are actively observing these criminal groups and collaborating with various agencies to thwart future offenses. Ongoing efforts aim to trace their activities, disrupt their networks, and enhance community safety.
