Dubai Media City Commemorates 25 Years as a Global Media Leader

Dubai Media City, a premier destination for media and content creation in the Middle East, is proudly marking its 25th anniversary, recognized for its pivotal role in advancing innovation within the creative industries.

As a cornerstone of TECOM Group’s diverse business districts, Dubai Media City has been instrumental in positioning Dubai as a thriving global media center, attracting both talent and investment. Established to evolve Dubai into a multifaceted Arab media powerhouse, the district offers advanced infrastructure and a supportive environment tailored for industry growth.

Dubai Media City established the groundwork for TECOM Group’s Media Cluster, which encompasses Dubai Production City and Dubai Studio City. Collectively, they provide support for over 40,000 creative professionals and host more than 60% of Fortune 500 media companies. The cluster represents various languages, including Arabic, English, German, Hindi, Chinese, and Tagalog, accommodating numerous TV and radio networks, social media platforms, and content creators.

Majed Al Suwaidi, Senior Vice President of Dubai Media City, Dubai Production City, and Dubai Studio City, remarked, “Under the adept leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Media City has consistently drawn global media influencers for over 25 years, enhancing our nation's knowledge-driven and innovation-centric economy.”

Fostering Content Creation

Dubai Media City has welcomed major media companies including CNN, Discovery Networks, WPP, and Publicis Groupe, as well as influential regional organizations like ITP Media Group and OSN Group. This establishment has also propelled Dubai to earn the title of Capital of Arab Media in both 2020 and 2021.

In 2024, Dubai emerged as a leading global destination for Greenfield FDI in cultural and creative sectors for the third year in a row, attracting 971 projects that generated AED 18.86 billion in investments and created 23,517 employment opportunities.

Cultivating Talent

The district actively promotes talent initiatives like the Emirati Media Talent Pledge and collaborates with the UAE Ministry of Economy & Tourism’s InstaBlock Lab to safeguard intellectual property. Additionally, Dubai Media City engages with professionals through community events like Creative Brunch and collaborates with Dubai Lynx, MENA’s premier creative platform.

Nurturing Innovation

Dubai Media City plays a key role in fostering start-ups through in5 Media, part of the innovative incubator in5. Since its inception in 2013, in5 has backed over 1,100 start-ups, securing AED 9 billion in funding. The incubator offers creative workspaces, mentorship, training, and networking possibilities.

Furthermore, D/Quarters, a co-working hub located in Dubai Media City and Dubai Internet City, delivers cutting-edge, flexible workspaces for freelancers and businesses alike.

As part of TECOM Group’s expansive portfolio of specialized business districts, Dubai Media City remains a driving force behind Dubai’s creative economy, reinforcing its standing as a prominent global media hub.
