Hatta Farming Festival Kicks Off, Highlighting UAE Agriculture

Hatta Farming Festival Kicks Off, Highlighting UAE Agriculture

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Dubai Municipality has officially launched the third edition of the Hatta Farming Festival, a key element of the ‘Dubai Farms’ initiative spearheaded by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Hosted at Hatta Leem Lake, the festival will take place until 1 February and gathers Emirati farmers, estate holders, and agricultural enterprises.

This festival coincides with the ‘Hatta Winter’ campaign by Brand Dubai and contributes to the #DubaiDestinations project, which promotes Hatta’s strengths in tourism, culture, and agriculture. The objective is to position Hatta as a prominent agri-tourism and eco-tourism hub in the UAE.

The event this year has seen an increase in participation, featuring specialized farms and companies that showcase cutting-edge agricultural innovations and sustainable practices. Notably, this year marks the first time that both government and private sector organizations are involved, with a focus on supporting People of Determination through workshops and displays. This effort aligns with Dubai’s strategy to support young farmers and develop the agriculture sector.

In addition, Dubai Municipality has rolled out support packages amounting to AED 3.7 million for farmers in Hatta. These packages offer fertiliser distribution, seeds, agricultural advice, pest management support, and mark the beginning of three tourism and production projects leveraging modern agricultural methods.

Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, noted that the festival serves as an essential meeting point for farmers and local producers to access various markets and services. The initiative promotes food security, sustainable practices, rural growth, and community health.

Entrance to the festival is complimentary for the public, featuring platforms for selling local agricultural products, livestock contests, training programs, advice services, and rewards for attendees. Hatta residents can enjoy free participation, with fees waived for temporary food-related activities during the event.

The Hatta Farming Festival is aimed at uniting farmers, consumers, and support organizations to advocate for sustainable agriculture while fostering community engagement through workshops, competitions, and interactive activities. This initiative supports a vibrant and eco-friendly lifestyle in Hatta.

According to Dubai Municipality, the festival embodies its commitment to enhancing Dubai’s sustainability and livability, empowering farmers, safeguarding biodiversity, bolstering the green economy, and elevating the overall quality of life in the Hatta area.
