Neymar won’t have problems securing Brazil World Cup spot if in top shape, says Ancelotti

Neymar won’t have problems securing Brazil World Cup spot if in top shape, says Ancelotti

Neymar’s World Cup Spot Depends on His Fitness

Brazil’s coach Carlo Ancelotti has said that Neymar will only play in the 2026 World Cup if he is fully fit. The 33-year-old striker was left out of Brazil’s squad for recent qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia.

Ancelotti explained that Neymar had a small muscle injury in his leg. Neymar, however, later said his exclusion was because of a “technical decision,” not an injury.

Neymar’s Struggles Since 2023

Neymar has not worn Brazil’s famous yellow jersey since October 2023, when he suffered serious knee ligament injuries. These injuries have made it difficult for him to return to his best form.

After leaving Saudi club Al-Hilal, Neymar rejoined his childhood club Santos in Brazil. He has shown some of his old brilliance, but also faced tough moments. Last month, he left the field in tears after Santos lost 6-0 to Vasco da Gama.

Ancelotti’s View on Neymar

Speaking to ESPN Brasil, Ancelotti praised Neymar’s talent but stressed that talent alone is not enough in modern football.

“Everyone knows Neymar’s skill,” Ancelotti said. “But to use his talent, he must be in top physical condition. If he is fully fit, there will be no problem including him in the national team.”

The coach also added that Neymar may not be able to play as a winger anymore because that role requires more running and stamina. Instead, he sees Neymar as an attacking midfielder or striker, playing in the center of the field.

Looking Ahead

Brazil has already qualified for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The team’s next match will be a friendly against South Korea in Seoul on October 10.

Ancelotti said he has spoken with Neymar directly, reminding him that he still has time to prepare. “Everyone wants Neymar in the national team in good shape,” the coach said. “He has time to get ready and help Brazil do its best at the World Cup.”
