Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan has announced that US President Donald Trump is expected to witness the signing of the Thailand-Cambodia ceasefire agreement in Kuala Lumpur. The announcement comes ahead of Malaysia hosting the 47th ASEAN Summit later this month.
Hasan stated that the Kuala Lumpur Accord Declaration is likely to be signed during the event, highlighting Trump’s anticipation to witness this important peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia.
While the White House has not officially confirmed Trump’s visit to Malaysia, the US president is set to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in South Korea on October 31 and November 1. Japan is also reportedly preparing for a visit by Trump.
The ASEAN-US joint summit will take place alongside the ASEAN Summit, scheduled for October 26-28 in Kuala Lumpur.
Thailand and Cambodia initially agreed to an unconditional ceasefire on July 28 after weeks of border hostilities, in a trilateral meeting hosted by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. On August 7, both countries finalized a 13-point agreement, allowing ASEAN observers to monitor the ceasefire along the disputed border.
This development strengthens regional peace and stability, showcasing Malaysia’s role as a key mediator in Southeast Asia.
