Ice Fall Near Atal Tunnel Triggers Panic

Post by : Shakul

A sudden avalanche-like ice fall near the Atal Tunnel caused panic among tourists visiting the high-altitude region. The incident occurred amid worsening weather conditions, with continuous heavy snowfall increasing the risk of avalanches and falling ice from nearby mountain slopes.

Authorities had already issued warnings and imposed restrictions near the North Portal of the tunnel, which is considered highly vulnerable due to unstable snow accumulation and steep terrain. Despite these advisories, the sudden fall of a large ice chunk highlighted the unpredictable nature of the region’s weather.

Emergency teams and local administration remain on high alert as snowfall continues in the area. The tunnel, which connects Manali to Lahaul-Spiti, is known for extreme winter conditions where even small disturbances can trigger avalanches or landslides.

Officials have strongly urged tourists to avoid restricted zones and follow safety guidelines. Travelers are also advised to postpone non-essential visits to high-risk areas, as poor visibility, road closures, and sudden snow movements continue to pose serious threats.
