India Defies Trump’s Tariff Threat Over Russian Oil | 40% Imports at Stake

India is pushing back against mounting pressure from Donald Trump, who has imposed a 25% tariff on Indian goods and linked further import taxes to India’s ongoing oil trade with Russia.

Despite the threat, India continues to prioritize its energy security and strategic ties with Moscow.

From just 68,000 barrels per day in Jan 2022 to over 2.15 million in May 2023, Russian oil now accounts for nearly 40% of India’s imports.
