Severe flash flooding has caused major destruction in Mezitli and Mersin Province in southern Turkey following heavy rainfall. Continuous downpour led to local streams overflowing, resulting in flooding across several residential and commercial areas.
Due to the intense rainfall, many roads were submerged under fast-flowing water, making them resemble rivers. Several vehicles were swept away by strong flood currents, while floodwater entered homes and business establishments, causing significant property damage.
Rescue and Emergency Operations Underway
Emergency response teams have reached the affected locations and are actively carrying out rescue and relief operations. Authorities are working to evacuate stranded residents and assess the extent of the damage caused by the floods.
Authorities Issue Safety Warning
Local authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel. Officials have also warned that further rainfall is expected in the coming days, which could worsen the situation.
Experts believe that continuous heavy rainfall caused a rapid rise in water levels in streams and drainage systems. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to deploy additional rescue teams if required.
