Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has highlighted the “success” of Donald Trump in achieving the Gaza peace plan, suggesting that similar efforts could help end the ongoing war in Ukraine. Speaking on Tuesday, Zelensky emphasized the need to maintain momentum for global peace and prevent conflicts from continuing unchecked.
Zelensky stated, “Now, as the war in the Middle East is coming to an end, it is important not to lose the momentum for advancing peace. The war in Europe can also be brought to an end, and the leadership of the United States and other partners is crucial.”
Over the weekend, Zelensky held a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump. He congratulated Trump on the Gaza peace plan and affirmed that if a war in one region can be stopped, similar steps could be taken to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. Zelensky said, “I congratulated @POTUS on his success and the Middle East deal he secured. If a war can be stopped in one region, other wars—including the Russian war—can also be stopped.”
Zelensky also spoke with his Finnish counterpart, Alex Stubb, for over an hour to discuss Ukraine’s current situation and coordinate positions on peace efforts. The discussion included the recent Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure and the need to strengthen air defense systems.
The Ukrainian President specifically praised Trump’s role in securing the release of hostages and halting the Gaza conflict, calling it an “outstanding achievement.” He stressed that similar decisive actions by Washington could help end Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. Zelensky said, “It is important that President Trump succeeded in implementing the necessary steps in Gaza. Undoubtedly, the right actions by the United States can also help bring an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine. We have a corresponding vision for this.”
Zelensky provided details about the ongoing Russian attacks. On Monday night, Russia launched 96 drones targeting Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. While many drones were intercepted by Ukraine’s defense system, some reached their targets. In Kharkiv, Russian strikes hit a city hospital, injuring 57 people and damaging energy facilities. Other attacks affected civilian infrastructure in Kirovohrad and energy sites in the Sumy region.
Highlighting Ukraine’s defense needs, Zelensky called for Patriot, NASAMS, SAMP/T, and other critical air defense systems from the US, Europe, the G7, and allied partners. He emphasized that providing these systems is vital to protect civilians and prevent further destruction.
“The world must compel Moscow to come to the negotiating table for genuine discussions. Only peace through strength can bring results,” Zelensky added, expressing gratitude to all international partners supporting Ukraine.
This statement reflects Zelensky’s commitment to peaceful resolution while stressing the importance of international cooperation. By referencing the Gaza peace plan, he aims to show that diplomatic and strategic efforts can succeed even in long-standing conflicts.
