Prachi Mandholia, an accomplished nutritionist with over 16 years of expertise in Mumbai, has identified five key superfoods that are vital for maintaining health throughout the winter months. As the season brings about chilly winds, warm clothing, and seasonal delicacies, it also poses health challenges like colds and fatigue. Prachi emphasizes the importance of selecting the right foods that are readily available in our homes to counteract these issues.
Although winter can be cozy, weakened immunity during this time often leads to sickness. To combat this, incorporating seasonal and locally sourced foods is crucial. These five superfoods not only bolster immunity but also enhance energy levels, promote digestion, and contribute to healthier skin.
Mustard greens, commonly referred to as sarson, serve to strengthen the body and keep it warm internally. Frequently featured in winter recipes, they are a rich source of nutrients that aid the immune system. Bajra, a widely used grain for making rotis, helps maintain body warmth and provides lasting energy, making it ideal for colder days.
Carrots, packed with essential vitamins, are another winter staple. They enhance vision and impart a natural glow to the skin. Many relish carrots in salads, soups, or in the beloved Indian dessert gajar ka halwa, especially during winter.
Sesame seeds, known locally as til, are also a potent winter food. They boost digestion and energy levels. Often featured in laddus, chikkis, and other homemade treats, sesame seeds help keep the body warm and promote overall well-being.
Oranges, the final superfood on Prachi's list, are succulent fruits loaded with vitamin C. This vitamin fortifies the body against infections and maintains skin health. A daily orange can significantly enhance immunity and provide essential winter nutrients.
Prachi insists that winter doesn’t have to equate to seasonal sickness or low vitality. With proper dietary choices, everyone can remain active and healthy, even amidst the winter chill. She encourages incorporating mustard greens, bajra, carrots, sesame seeds, and oranges into daily meals, highlighting their accessibility and affordability.
Our kitchen can transform into a miniature pharmacy during winter when we prioritize the right ingredients. Seasonal foods are naturally tailored to bolster the body through varying climatic conditions, particularly in winter, which is beneficial for enhancing immunity and warmth.
By simply adjusting our daily diets to include these natural superfoods, individuals can maintain strength and protection throughout the winter season.
