Rourkela, Odisha:
On Saturday afternoon, six individuals, comprising the pilot and co-pilot, sustained injuries when a nine-seater aircraft operated by IndiaOne Airlines executed an emergency landing near Rourkela.
Officials indicated that a technical malfunction occurred shortly after the aircraft's take-off, necessitating a landing in farmland near Katibandha Kansara, close to Jalda, around 1:20–1:30 pm.
The aircraft, a single-engine Cessna Caravan 208 with registration VT-KSS, was traveling from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela. It took off at 12:27 pm with two pilots and four passengers onboard.
Authorities in Odisha commended the pilots for their rapid and professional response upon identifying the issue. They promptly issued a Mayday call and executed a controlled forced landing, ultimately safeguarding all lives aboard.
The state government noted, “The pilots ensured a secure landing during the emergency, which helped preserve lives.”
IndiaOne Airlines reported that the aircraft flew only four to five kilometers before the incident transpired. The airline is collaborating with aviation regulators and the Odisha government to assist impacted passengers and crew.
All injured individuals were swiftly rescued and transported to a local hospital in Rourkela, with their conditions now stabilized.
Emergency services, including police and fire departments, along with senior officials (including the Rourkela Superintendent of Police), arrived at the scene shortly following the incident. The area was secured due to aviation fuel leakage, restricting public access for safety reasons.
