China Eastern Airlines Resumes Direct Shanghai-Delhi Flights Nov 9

China Eastern Airlines Resumes Direct Shanghai-Delhi Flights Nov 9

Post by : Rameen Ariff

China Eastern Airlines is set to resume its direct flights between Shanghai and Delhi from November 9, marking a major milestone in India-China air connectivity. This resumption comes after more than five years, as direct flights between the two countries were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions. With this move, China Eastern Airlines is reestablishing its presence in India, offering travelers a convenient and seamless option for international travel.

The airline will operate three weekly services on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, utilizing its A330-200 aircraft for these routes. The resumption of China Eastern Airlines flights between Shanghai and Delhi is expected to boost business, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges between India and China. For Indian travelers, the return of China Eastern Airlines flights provides a reliable and direct travel option, reducing travel time and offering a comfortable journey.

Direct air services between India and China are gradually normalizing, with IndiGo also restarting flights connecting Kolkata and Guangzhou from October 26. The restart of China Eastern Airlines flights reinforces the growing air connectivity between the two nations. According to the airline, the resumption of China Eastern Airlines flights is a strategic step to restore full operations in India, creating new momentum for economic collaboration and cultural exchange.

InterGlobe Air Transport, a part of InterGlobe Enterprises, has been the exclusive General Sales Agent (GSA) for China Eastern Airlines in India since 2002. InterGlobe played a key role in facilitating China Eastern Airlines flights, making it the first Chinese airline to offer direct flights between India and China. The airline’s return underscores the significance of China Eastern Airlines in connecting Shanghai and Delhi, providing both leisure and business travelers with direct air travel options.

The suspension of direct flights between India and China began in early 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and the eastern Ladakh border tensions. After more than five years, China Eastern Airlines flights are now set to resume, signaling a renewed phase in India-China relations. Civil aviation authorities from both countries have been engaging in technical-level discussions to ensure smooth resumption of air services, and the return of China Eastern Airlines flights marks the success of these efforts.

With the resumption of direct flights, China Eastern Airlines is expected to play a pivotal role in reviving cross-border travel and trade between India and China. Travelers can now look forward to convenient access to Shanghai from Delhi, enhancing both business opportunities and cultural interactions. The return of China Eastern Airlines flights is more than just a transportation service—it represents a bridge of connectivity and collaboration between the two nations.
