Nearly two months after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was tragically shot dead during an event at Utah Valley University, his wife Erika Kirk has opened up about the emotional aftermath and how their young children are coping with the loss.
In a recent interview, Erika revealed that her three-year-old daughter and one-year-old son still ask about their father. Struggling to hold back tears, she shared how she explains Charlie’s absence to them.
“After Charlie’s death, I told my children that Daddy has gone on a work trip with Jesus,” Erika said. “My daughter continues to ask where he is. I told her that if she ever wants to talk to Daddy, she can look up to the sky and speak to him—he can hear her.”
When her daughter asked, “You think I could go sometime?”, Erika responded gently, “Baby, we will all go one day.”
Last week, Erika posted an emotional video on social media showing their daughter spotting her late father’s poster outside the Turning Point USA headquarters, the organization Charlie founded. In the clip, the little girl can be heard saying, “I see Daddy!” as their car drove past the building.
Sharing the video, Erika wrote, “Her saying your name, as she witnesses all you’ve built and continue to build, proves that love never dies—it just changes form. It breathes through our children.”
She added, “This is her legacy too. And as she grows up and continues to say your name, I’ll remind her that each time, heaven leans in to listen.”
Erika concluded with a heartfelt tribute: “I love you, Charlie baby. I’m so proud of you. We all are.”
Charlie Kirk, 31, was shot and killed on September 10 while giving a speech at Utah Valley University. Tyler Robinson, 22, has been charged with his murder and faces the death penalty if convicted.
Despite the immense pain, Erika has chosen forgiveness. “Charlie wanted to save young men just like the one who took his life,” she said. “That young man—I forgive him.”
Erika’s strength and faith continue to inspire many, as she honors Charlie’s legacy through their children and the enduring power of love.
