In today’s health-conscious world, many are looking for nutritious ways to start the day, and seeds have emerged as a popular choice. Despite their small size, these nutrient-rich powerhouses are frequently added to oatmeal, smoothies, or simply consumed with water on an empty stomach. Yet, with numerous types of seeds available, it can be challenging to determine which ones best suit your health. To assist with this, Kanchan Khurana, a senior clinical nutritionist at Fortis Hospital in Greater Noida, offered some straightforward advice.
She began by emphasizing that the first step in any morning routine should be hydration. According to her, nothing beats drinking a simple glass of water first thing in the morning. Whether warm or at room temperature, it serves as a wake-up call for your system and prepares the stomach for food.
When it comes to recommending specific seeds for a morning routine, the dietician noted that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer. Different seeds cater to different health challenges, and choosing the right one should be aligned with your body’s needs. For instance, one might benefit digestion while another may assist with weight management, skin health, or energy levels. This serves as a reminder that each individual should not blindly follow another’s routine.
Moreover, she cautioned against the social media trend of promoting ‘superseeds’ as essentials for everyone. Many people partake in chia seeds, flaxseeds, or jeera water simply because they’ve seen others do so. However, mimicking someone else’s regimen without understanding personal health conditions can be detrimental, potentially exacerbating issues.
The nutritionist suggested taking time to assess one’s own health concerns before selecting seeds. For instance, someone suffering from acidity may require a different seed than someone facing constipation. Similarly, those looking to manage blood sugar or reduce inflammation may need to adopt a different approach. This self-assessment is crucial because the ideal seed varies according to the specific health issues at hand.
Khurana highlighted that while superseeds are indeed effective, they must be selected thoughtfully. The best course of action is to define your health concern first, and thereafter, choose the right seed, ideally verifying this choice with a nutritional expert. This ensures a safe and beneficial routine.
As seeds gain popularity, many rush into trying them out. However, the expert reminded us that trends don't necessarily equate to health. Individual body requirements are far more important than viral online fitness content. Choosing the correct seeds for your morning routine could enhance digestion, energy, immunity, and overall wellness, but this is contingent on aligning your choice with your unique health needs.
Ultimately, the takeaway is clear: though seeds are beneficial, each type has its unique role. Start with hydration, listen to your body’s signals, and choose carefully. Being mindful in your selections can lead to healthier mornings and a balanced day ahead.
