California's New Year Bomb Plot Thwarted: Four Arrested

California's New Year Bomb Plot Thwarted: Four Arrested

Post by : Meena Ariff

In a major security operation, US federal agents apprehended four individuals from the radical Turtle Island Liberation Front in California while they were preparing a bomb attack for New Year’s Eve.

US Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed that the Justice Department and FBI successfully disrupted what she termed a “massive and horrific terror plot.” The individuals detained include 30-year-old Audrey Illeene Carroll, 32-year-old Zachary Aaron Page, 24-year-old Dante Gaffield, and 41-year-old Tina Lai, who now face serious charges of conspiracy and possession of an unregistered explosive device.

Video surveillance captured the suspects operating in the Mojave Desert near Los Angeles, revealing plans to coordinate the detonation of bombs at logistics centers reminiscent of Amazon’s, timed to coincide with New Year’s Eve festivities. They believed that the distractions of fireworks would mask the explosions.

The Turtle Island Liberation Front claims to be committed to the “liberation of all colonized peoples” and has previously protested against ICE’s actions regarding detentions and deportations.

Jim McDonnell, Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department, acknowledged that while there may be differences in opinion regarding immigration policy between federal and local officials, their primary goal remains the safety of the community.
