Kristi Noem, the U.S. Homeland Security Secretary, was taken to a hospital in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday because she had an allergic reaction. The Department of Homeland Security said she was taken to the hospital just to be safe. She is awake and getting better.
Noem is 53 years old and used to be the governor of South Dakota. She also worked in Congress before becoming Homeland Security Secretary. She was chosen for this job by President Donald Trump soon after he was re-elected. Noem plays an important role in carrying out the president’s immigration policies, which include strict actions at the U.S. borders.
Besides immigration, Noem is in charge of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). She has criticized FEMA and said it should be closed. Recently, President Trump said he plans to end FEMA after this year’s hurricane season.
Secret Service agents were seen outside the hospital where Noem was treated to make sure she was safe. No more details about the allergic reaction have been shared.
