Drugs Worth RM16.2 Million Seized at Unregistered Klang Religious Site

Drugs Worth RM16.2 Million Seized at Unregistered Klang Religious Site

Post by : Rohit Dhiman

Malaysian authorities have seized narcotics valued at approximately RM16.2 million during a series of operations targeting suspected drug trafficking networks across Selangor. One of the locations raided was an unregistered religious premises in Klang, which investigators believe may have been used to store illegal substances before their distribution. According to a report by Free Malaysia Today, Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said the seizures were made during five separate operations conducted between October 13 and 19. The operations covered four locations and targeted four suspected syndicates. The investigation began to gain momentum following the arrest of a man who reportedly worked part-time at the premises in Klang. Information obtained during the investigation led officers to examine the location as part of a wider effort to identify suspected drug storage and distribution activities. Police have arrested eight individuals in connection with the investigation. Authorities are examining the suspected networks, the origin of the seized substances and their intended destinations.

Multiple Narcotics Recovered During Five Operations

The seizures involved several types of suspected illegal drugs, including cannabis, ketamine, heroin and liquid ecstasy. The variety of substances recovered indicates the scale and complexity of the suspected trafficking activities under investigation. According to the police chief, officers recovered 129 packets of suspected compressed cannabis buds weighing 81.3kg, along with another 327 packets of compressed cannabis weighing 37kg. The seizures also included 3,510 ketamine liquid cartridges, 40kg of ketamine, a further 25.4kg of ketamine, 84 bottles of liquid ecstasy and 20.6kg of heroin. The substances were recovered across the operations, although the available report does not specify the exact quantity of each drug seized at the Klang religious premises alone. Police are continuing their investigation to establish the connections between the locations, the suspects and the suspected trafficking networks.

Eight Suspects Arrested as Investigation Expands

Eight people, comprising six men and two women aged between 19 and 48, have been arrested to assist the investigation. Shazeli said the group included three foreign men and one foreign woman who were suspected of having links to local and international drug syndicates. According to the report, the foreign suspects had entered Malaysia using social visit passes. Investigators are examining their movements before the arrests and their possible involvement in transporting illegal substances across borders. The police chief said some foreign suspects were believed to have arrived in Malaysia just one day before they were arrested, while others had entered the country several days earlier. Authorities suspect that some of the individuals may have travelled through Kuala Lumpur International Airport before proceeding to other destinations. Police said they detected drugs in luggage during the operation. The investigation is expected to focus on identifying the individuals who arranged the transportation, those responsible for storing the substances and the people intended to receive the consignments.

Police Investigate Possible International Drug Connections

Investigators believe the seized drugs may have originated in a neighbouring country and were intended for distribution within Malaysia as well as overseas markets. However, the suspected origin and intended destinations remain part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities are working to establish whether the four suspected syndicates operated independently or had connections with a larger trafficking network. Police are also examining whether other criminal groups may have been involved. Shazeli said investigators were still checking for possible links to gangsterism or secret societies. At this stage, the authorities have not confirmed that such groups were involved. The investigation is continuing to determine the nature and extent of any suspected connections.

Vehicles and Other Assets Worth RM54,835 Seized

In addition to the narcotics, police confiscated assets valued at RM54,835 from four local suspects. The assets included a Honda Accord and a Proton Saga. Investigators are examining the seized property as part of the wider inquiry into the suspected drug operations. Asset seizures can help investigators establish whether vehicles or other property were connected to the alleged transportation, storage or distribution of illegal substances. However, the available report does not establish that the vehicles were directly used in drug trafficking. Police also reported that only one of the eight suspects had a recorded criminal history. That individual was linked to seven previous drug-related and other criminal offences, according to the police chief. Authorities have not indicated that the remaining suspects had prior criminal records.

Investigation Under Malaysia's Dangerous Drugs Act

The eight suspects were arrested to assist investigations under Section 39B of Malaysia's Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The provision concerns serious drug trafficking offences and carries severe penalties under Malaysian law. The precise legal consequences depend on the charges, evidence and applicable law. The arrests do not, by themselves, establish the guilt of any individual. Police investigations will need to determine each suspect's alleged role and the evidence connecting them to the seized substances. Authorities are expected to continue tracing the suspected supply chain, examining the seized materials and investigating possible links between domestic operations and international networks.

Why the Klang Seizure Matters

The recovery of narcotics worth RM16.2 million across five operations highlights the scale of the suspected drug trafficking activities under investigation in Selangor. The case is particularly significant because one of the locations was an unregistered religious premises that police suspect was used for storage. The authorities have not established that the religious nature of the premises was connected to the alleged offences, and the investigation concerns suspected criminal activity at the location. The combined recovery of cannabis, ketamine, heroin and liquid ecstasy also points to the need for investigators to determine whether the substances were connected to a common supply chain or separate trafficking operations. With eight people arrested and possible international connections under examination, the next stage of the investigation will focus on identifying the source of the drugs, their intended recipients and the suspected roles of those involved.
