Renowned actor Pankaj Tripathi is mourning the loss of his mother, Hemwanti Devi, who passed away at the family’s ancestral home in Belsand, Gopalganj, Bihar, on Friday. She was 89 years old and had been unwell for some time.
According to the actor’s family, Pankaj Tripathi was by his mother’s side when she breathed her last. In a heartfelt statement, the family shared, “We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Shri Pankaj Tripathi’s beloved mother, Smt. Hemwanti Devi, who left for her heavenly abode peacefully at the family’s hometown in Belsand, Gopalganj, Bihar, on Friday. She passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her loved ones.”
Her last rites were performed on Saturday in Belsand, attended by close family members, relatives, and friends. The Tripathi family has requested privacy during this difficult time, stating, “We humbly request everyone to keep Smt. Hemwanti Devi in their thoughts and prayers and respect the family’s privacy as they mourn this immense loss.”
Pankaj Tripathi, known for his grounded nature and deep connection to his roots, has often spoken fondly about his parents. In a 2024 interview, the actor revealed that his mother was unaware of his immense fame. “My mother still doesn’t know how popular I am. She prefers her simple life and often tells us not to fuss over her,” he had said.
The actor had previously lost his father, Pandit Banaras Tiwari, in 2023 at the age of 99. The passing of his mother marks another emotional chapter for the acclaimed performer, who continues to remain close to his hometown and family values.
Fans and colleagues from the film industry have expressed their condolences and support for the actor during this time of grief.
