PM Modi Condemns Abusive Remarks Against His Late Mother in Bihar Rally

PM Modi Condemns Abusive Remarks Against His Late Mother in Bihar Rally

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed that he was deeply hurt by abusive remarks made against his late mother during Congress’ “Voter Adhikar Yatra” in Bihar. Speaking to the media, Modi said that for those who do not hesitate to insult “Mother India,” insulting his mother may not seem like a significant issue, but it deeply affected him.

This marks the first public reaction from the Prime Minister since the derogatory comments about his deceased mother came to light during the yatra held recently in Darbhanga, Bihar. Modi stated that while he might personally choose to forgive the political parties involved—the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress—he believes the people of Bihar would never forgive such behaviour.

Insult to Mother is Insult to Bihar’s Women

Modi emphasised that those who abuse women often mistake them for being weak. He added that the insults directed at his mother were not just personal attacks, but also an insult to the daughters and sisters of Bihar. He questioned the morality of dragging his mother, who had no connection to politics, into the controversy, asking why she was targeted and what wrong she had committed.

The Prime Minister stressed that the individuals responsible for such acts deserve to be punished under the law.

RJD Accused of Taking Revenge Against Women

During the event, Modi accused the RJD of attempting to take revenge against women. He claimed that women’s support had been a key factor in the party’s ouster from power in Bihar. Modi praised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, stating that he has consistently worked to empower women across the state.

Event Highlight: Women’s Empowerment Initiative

The remarks from the Prime Minister came during an event in New Delhi, where he virtually inaugurated a new cooperative initiative aimed at empowering women associated with self-help groups in Bihar. Modi’s speech highlighted the government’s focus on improving women’s social and economic status in the state.

Viral Video Sparks Controversy

The controversy erupted last week after videos from a rally in Darbhanga went viral. The footage allegedly showed abusive language being hurled not only at Prime Minister Modi but also at his late mother. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly condemned the incident, directly blaming Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav for the verbal attacks.

Following the uproar, a BJP delegation filed a complaint at Kotwali police station, demanding action against those responsible for the offensive remarks. The party called for a thorough investigation to hold the perpetrators accountable and maintain respect for public figures and their families.

Public Reaction and Political Tensions

The incident has escalated political tensions in Bihar, with BJP accusing the opposition parties of disrespecting women and targeting personal family members for political gains. Modi’s comments sought to draw attention not only to the personal insult but also to broader issues of women’s respect and dignity in society.

The Prime Minister’s statement has reignited debates over political decorum and respect during election campaigns, especially when rallies are attended by large public audiences. Modi’s condemnation reinforces his government’s focus on women’s empowerment and the protection of family dignity against political attacks.
