Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto boasts a remarkable 78% approval rating from the public, even in a year defined by economic challenges and student protests.
A recent survey conducted by independent pollster Indikator Politik Indonesia found that only 20.8% of respondents expressed discontent with his leadership. Many citizens particularly appreciate Prabowo's initiatives on anti-corruption, social assistance programs, and a free-meals initiative for children, regarded as a hallmark of his administration.
However, some facets of his leadership have attracted criticism. The president's approach to political issues was rated the lowest, garnering just 31% approval. Additionally, his administration has faced backlash for increasing military involvement in civilian matters, alongside facing issues with the free-meals program, which recently led to some children falling ill. Economic growth too has been less than ideal, with a third-quarter growth rate of 5.04%, falling short of the government’s goal of 5.2%.
Despite these challenges, a significant portion of the populace remains appreciative of the direct benefits brought by Prabowo’s social initiatives, particularly in tackling corruption and aiding marginalized communities. The enduring approval ratings reflect a public focus on practical outcomes amid political unrest.
