Surgeon Sounds Alarm Over Rising Metabolic Syndrome in India

Surgeon Sounds Alarm Over Rising Metabolic Syndrome in India

Post by : Saif Rahman

In a significant health warning, a senior bariatric and gastrointestinal surgeon from Gurugram has highlighted a rising health crisis in India. Dr. Anshuman Kaushal, who possesses over seventeen years of medical expertise, asserts that the nation is not combating a single illness; rather, it is facing an entire cluster of issues collectively referred to as metabolic syndrome.

Metabolic syndrome arises when the body fails to respond effectively to insulin. This dysfunction can lead to a harmful metabolic state characterized by hormone imbalances, liver inflammation, and accelerated fat accumulation. Gradually, this condition contributes to fatty liver, elevated blood sugar, cholesterol issues, and high blood pressure, all significantly heightening the risk of heart attacks and other serious health complications.

In a video released on November seventeenth, Dr. Kaushal remarked on the rapid escalation of this health concern in India, indicating that numerous individuals may be unaware of their condition. He pointed out five key warning signs: an increased waist size, high fasting blood sugar, elevated triglycerides, low levels of beneficial cholesterol, and raised blood pressure. The presence of three or more of these indicators signifies a heightened risk for metabolic syndrome.

Considered a covert threat, this syndrome develops insidiously, often without significant symptoms initially. Many individuals perceive themselves as healthy until the condition advances to a critical stage. Medical professionals refer to it as a "gateway disease," as it paves the way for diabetes, heart disorders, and fatty liver to develop more easily.

Dr. Kaushal elaborated on the causes of this growing issue in India, attributing it to the increasing consumption of processed foods, sedentary lifestyles, insufficient exercise, heightened stress levels, and inadequate sleep—all of which exacerbate insulin resistance. Over time, these elements contribute to what he describes as a "metabolic traffic jam," hindering bodily functions.

To assist individuals in assessing their own risk, Dr. Kaushal provided straightforward self-assessment criteria. A waist measurement exceeding thirty-five inches for men and thirty-one point two inches for women is concerning. Moreover, fasting blood sugar above one hundred mg/dL, triglycerides over one hundred fifty, low good cholesterol, and blood pressure readings consistently above one hundred thirty over eighty-five are notable indicators.

Experts emphasize that early intervention can prevent the deterioration of metabolic syndrome. Adopting balanced diets, maintaining an active lifestyle, ensuring proper sleep, and regularly monitoring health indicators can shield individuals from severe long-term complications. Many instances can be managed effectively if detected early; delay in addressing symptoms complicates the situation significantly.

Currently, metabolic syndrome presents a pressing public health challenge for India. Experts contend that raising awareness and implementing simple lifestyle adjustments can avert many serious subsequent health issues linked to this condition. Dr. Kaushal’s message is unequivocal: recognizing the signs today is pivotal for safeguarding your health tomorrow.
