Abu Dhabi: H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), recently met with Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), in Abu Dhabi. The meeting focused on ways to enhance cooperation between the UAE and the African Union and to support development efforts across African countries.
During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah congratulated Youssouf on his appointment as the AUC Chairperson. He expressed his eagerness to work closely with him to strengthen UAE–African relations in multiple areas, including economic growth, social development, and sustainable initiatives. This demonstrates the UAE’s ongoing commitment to nurturing strong, positive ties with African nations.
Sheikh Abdullah emphasized that the UAE is keen to expand its partnership with the African Union. He highlighted the importance of building prosperous relations with African countries based on mutual goals, shared aspirations, and common development objectives. By working together, both the UAE and the African Union can contribute to sustainable development and economic prosperity throughout the continent.
The discussion between the UAE and the AUC covered ways to enhance cooperation in supporting African development projects. This includes initiatives in sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic growth. The UAE has long been active in providing support and investment to African countries, helping to implement programs that improve the quality of life for citizens and create job opportunities.
The African Union, as a regional organization, works to promote peace, security, and development across the continent. Cooperation with the UAE allows the AUC to benefit from financial and technical support, knowledge sharing, and international partnerships. By joining efforts, both sides aim to address pressing challenges in African countries, such as poverty, lack of infrastructure, and limited access to essential services.
Sheikh Abdullah and Youssouf also reviewed current regional and international developments. They exchanged views on global and regional challenges, such as economic stability, climate change, and international security. These discussions are important for aligning strategies and coordinating joint actions that benefit both Africa and the UAE.
The meeting highlighted the UAE’s proactive approach to global diplomacy. By engaging with key international partners like the African Union, the UAE strengthens its role as a trusted partner and supporter of development initiatives around the world.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, and Mohamed Salem Ahmed Al Rashdi, UAE Ambassador to Ethiopia and the country’s Permanent Representative to the African Union. Their presence reflects the importance the UAE places on high-level cooperation and continuous dialogue with African partners.
The UAE has consistently prioritized cooperation with African nations through investment, development projects, and humanitarian aid. Over the years, the UAE has contributed to building schools, hospitals, and infrastructure projects in several African countries. By working closely with the African Union, the UAE can ensure that its support aligns with continental priorities and reaches communities that need it the most.
Strengthening cooperation with the African Union also enhances trade, investment, and economic ties between the UAE and Africa. This partnership opens new opportunities for businesses, encourages foreign investment, and creates a favorable environment for sustainable growth. In addition, it supports the UAE’s vision of being a global hub for development, innovation, and diplomacy.
Both the UAE and the African Union share a commitment to achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) across African countries. These goals include ending poverty, improving education, ensuring access to clean water, promoting health and well-being, and fostering economic growth. By combining resources, expertise, and strategies, the UAE and the AUC aim to make a tangible impact on the lives of millions of people in Africa.
The meeting marks a promising step forward in UAE–African relations. Moving ahead, both sides are expected to enhance collaboration on development projects, expand trade and investment opportunities, and deepen diplomatic ties. The partnership between the UAE and the African Union reflects a long-term commitment to regional stability, prosperity, and mutual growth.
Experts note that strategic partnerships like this are crucial for sustainable development in Africa. By engaging with international partners such as the UAE, African nations can access vital resources, technology, and knowledge that help them achieve their development targets efficiently and effectively.
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s meeting with Mahmoud Ali Youssouf underscores the UAE’s strong commitment to Africa’s development and prosperity. By reinforcing cooperation with the African Union, the UAE aims to support economic growth, infrastructure development, and social progress across the continent.
The discussions between the UAE and the AUC also demonstrate the importance of international partnerships in addressing global challenges. Through continuous collaboration, shared resources, and strategic planning, the UAE and African nations can work together to create sustainable, long-lasting positive change.
This partnership not only strengthens diplomatic and economic relations but also shows the UAE’s dedication to global development and its role as a responsible international partner. The future of UAE–Africa cooperation looks promising, with potential benefits for both the UAE and African countries in the years to come.
