Ukraine Allies To Draft Ceasefire Plan Soon Says Zelensky

Ukraine Allies To Draft Ceasefire Plan Soon Says Zelensky

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Ukraine and its allies have agreed to develop a ceasefire plan within the next ten days, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Monday. The Ukrainian leader’s statement came after US President Donald Trump proposed halting the war along current frontlines, a move that could mark a crucial turning point in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

In an interview with Axios, Zelensky said, “Some quick points. Like a plan for a ceasefire. We decided we will work on it in the next week or ten days.” The ceasefire plan aims to create a roadmap toward peace while maintaining Ukraine’s defensive readiness against potential Russian aggression.

Zelensky also revealed that Ukraine has been in talks with Washington to acquire additional weapons to maintain pressure on Moscow. “We are asking the US administration not only for Tomahawk missiles but for similar systems that do not require lengthy training,” he said. The request for Tomahawk missiles underscores Kyiv’s desire to strengthen its strike capabilities while balancing diplomatic negotiations for peace.

The ceasefire plan discussions follow months of heavy fighting and stalled peace efforts. Analysts believe the plan could open the door for renewed talks between Kyiv and Moscow, especially if the United States and European allies can coordinate a unified diplomatic strategy. However, Ukrainian officials remain cautious, emphasizing that any ceasefire must guarantee security and territorial integrity.

Zelensky’s remarks reflect growing international pressure for de-escalation as the war enters another year with no clear military breakthrough. The ceasefire plan could serve as a foundation for broader negotiations, possibly involving third-party mediators. Still, both sides have deep mistrust after previous truces collapsed.

For now, Ukraine continues to seek strong military backing while preparing for peace talks. As the ceasefire plan takes shape over the next ten days, global attention remains fixed on how both Kyiv and Moscow will respond — and whether this initiative can bring a much-needed pause to one of the world’s most devastating conflicts.
