With the arrival of World Diabetes Day 2025, experts urge individuals to recognize that diabetes is not solely about high sugar levels. It is intricately connected to our lifestyle choices. Sedentary habits, poor dietary choices, and insufficient physical activity can lead to various health issues, including diabetes.
Dr. N.K. Soni, a seasoned physician with four decades of expertise, emphasizes that controlling diabetes doesn't necessitate rigorous diets or complex workout regimens. He asserts that dedicating just 30 minutes to exercise each day can significantly aid in managing blood sugar levels.
There is a common misconception that one requires gym memberships or specialized equipment. However, Dr. Soni encourages everyone to pursue straightforward activities in their daily routines. Opt to walk to nearby destinations rather than ordering in, choose stairs over elevators, or engage in fun activities with children in the park. Any movement is beneficial.
While some claim they lack time for exercise, Dr. Soni reminds us that we often spend extensive hours on our devices. He recommends reallocating at least 30 minutes of that time to a brisk walk. Even minor adjustments in daily living can yield significant health benefits.
To counteract inactivity, he advises patients against sitting or lying down right after dinner. Instead, a leisurely post-dinner stroll or walking while chatting on the phone can facilitate better sugar utilization in the body.
Hydration is another crucial factor Dr. Soni emphasizes. Drinking sufficient water aids in toxin removal and ensures efficient body function.
As World Diabetes Day is recognized globally, the underlying message resonates: managing diabetes is achievable through small, straightforward lifestyle changes. Regular movement, optimal hydration, and attentive habits can lead to enhanced health. Dr. Soni sums it up best: “Half an hour is all it takes to start fighting diabetes.”
