Early Tuesday at 4:19 am, a 3.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in Andhra Pradesh's Alluri Sitharama Raju district, registering at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres, the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) said. Nearby Visakhapatnam experienced short-lived tremors.
Officials confirmed there were no injuries or reports of structural damage. Precautionary advisories were issued to residents in the affected areas as a safety measure.
The epicentre was logged at 18.02°N and 82.58°E. “A mild earthquake was recorded in Alluri Sitharama Raju district, while tremors were felt in parts of Vizag,” an APSDMA spokesperson stated.
Local residents described brief vibrations lasting only a few seconds before normal activity resumed. Disaster management teams in both districts were placed on standby to respond if required.
Seismologists said the tremor was minor and in line with the region's moderate seismic activity. Authorities indicated there was no immediate threat of significant aftershocks.
Residents were urged to stay calm and follow standard safety guidance should any further movement be detected.
