Samsung Electronics has increased the domestic prices of its flagship Samsung Galaxy S26 smartphone lineup in South Korea, with rising memory chip costs emerging as a key factor behind the change. According to Yonhap, cited by Reuters, the price adjustment affects several Galaxy S26 models, with the standard 256GB version seeing an increase of 149,600 won. Its new price has been reported at 1,403,600 won, equivalent to about US$1,030 at the exchange rate cited in the report. The latest move comes only months after the Galaxy S26 series was launched, adding another layer of pressure for consumers considering Samsung's premium smartphone lineup.
Most models in the series received a 149,600-won increase, according to the report. However, the 1TB version of the Galaxy S26 Ultra saw a larger price adjustment. Its price increased by 270,000 won to 2,821,500 won. The difference means that customers choosing Samsung's highest-storage flagship option now face a substantially higher price than before. The price changes show that the impact is not limited to Samsung's entry-level flagship model. Different storage and model configurations are being affected as the company responds to higher component expenses.
The main factor highlighted in the report is the sharp increase in memory chip prices. Memory components are an important part of modern smartphones, particularly premium devices that require large amounts of storage and fast memory for demanding applications. Higher component costs can increase the manufacturing expense of smartphones and put pressure on manufacturers' profit margins. Samsung's latest pricing decision comes as the global technology industry faces increased demand for memory components, including demand associated with artificial intelligence-related computing.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 series was launched in March 2026. At the time, Samsung had already set higher prices for some models in markets including the United States and South Korea. The latest increase therefore represents an additional pricing adjustment after the product's launch. For consumers, the timing is significant because flagship smartphone prices are increasingly influenced not only by product features and technology but also by the cost of critical components used to manufacture the devices.
For people planning to purchase a Galaxy S26 smartphone in South Korea, the revised prices mean that the cost of several configurations has moved higher. The standard Galaxy S26 now costs 1,403,600 won in the domestic market based on the reported 256GB configuration. Other models have also received increases, while the 1TB Galaxy S26 Ultra has recorded the largest reported increase in the lineup. The changes could also make storage configuration an increasingly important factor for consumers comparing different versions of the flagship series.
The development highlights a wider issue facing the electronics industry. Smartphone manufacturers depend on a large global supply chain involving memory chips, processors, displays, batteries and other components. When the cost of a major component rises sharply, companies have several options. They can absorb the additional expense, reduce other costs, adjust product specifications or pass part of the increase on to customers. Samsung's latest decision indicates that higher memory costs are becoming significant enough to influence retail pricing for its flagship smartphones.
The immediate focus will be on how consumers respond to the higher prices and whether component costs remain elevated. The Galaxy S26 series operates in a highly competitive premium smartphone market, where Samsung faces competition from other major technology companies. Changes in component costs could therefore influence pricing strategies across the industry if elevated memory prices continue. For now, the reported price adjustment applies to Samsung's domestic South Korean market. The Reuters report specifically identifies the South Korean pricing changes and does not establish that identical increases have been applied in every international market.
