Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan expressed profound sorrow over the loss of his longtime makeup artist, Ashok Sawant, who died on November 9. The actor affectionately referred to him as “Ashok dada” and highlighted their enduring partnership of over 27 years.
A Deep-rooted Connection
Their collaboration began during the filming of Abhishek’s debut, Refugee. Over the years, Sawant transcended the role of a makeup artist, becoming a cherished member of Abhishek’s family. Abhishek acknowledged the rich legacy of the Sawant family in the film industry, noting that Ashok’s elder brother has been a makeup artist for Amitabh Bachchan for nearly five decades.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Abhishek reminisced about Ashok’s kind spirit, describing him as “the most loving, gentle, and affable person” always sporting a warm smile. Even during his later years of illness, Ashok ensured that Abhishek looked his best on set.
Tributes and Reflections
Reflecting on his loss, Abhishek said, “Last night we lost him. He was the first person whose feet I would touch and take blessings from during my first shot. I’ll now have to look to the skies, knowing he’ll still bless me.”
He also conveyed gratitude for Ashok’s unwavering support and skill, stating, “Thank you, dada, for your love and care. It’s hard to imagine working without you. May you rest in peace until we embrace again someday.”
Alongside his tribute, Abhishek shared two photos of Ashok Sawant: one from his latest work on the film Kaalidhar and another from earlier days, a testament to their shared experiences over the years.
Reactions from the Industry
The announcement of Ashok Sawant’s passing elicited heartfelt condolences from various Bollywood figures. Veteran actor Jackie Shroff remarked, “Om Shanti. He was such a gentle soul.” Boman Irani remembered Ashok as “always warm and protective,” emphasizing his significant impact.
Numerous other celebrities, including Ranveer Singh, Remo D’Souza, Tara Sharma, and Navya Nanda, expressed their grief, reflecting Ashok’s deep reverence within the industry.
Future Endeavors for Abhishek Bachchan
Abhishek was recently featured in the Zee5 film Kaalidhar Laapata and is anticipated to star in Siddharth Anand’s upcoming project King, alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan. His loss comes at a critical moment as he embarks on significant projects in his career.
