Abu Dhabi Unveils Daily Pill for Obesity Management

Abu Dhabi Unveils Daily Pill for Obesity Management

Post by : Badri Ariffin

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has launched an innovative daily oral pill for obesity as part of its Personalised Weight Management Programme. This initiative, developed in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, aims to enhance access to cutting-edge healthcare solutions.

This programme integrates medical treatments, behavioural guidance, and ongoing digital tracking to help individuals manage their weight successfully. The comprehensive approach seeks to improve long-term health results and elevate overall quality of life.

Long-term adherence remains a significant challenge in obesity treatment; the new daily oral solution offers a convenient alternative to traditional therapies, potentially aiding patients in maintaining their treatment routines.

Officials reiterated that this initiative reflects Abu Dhabi’s dedication to patient-focused healthcare, tailoring treatments to fit seamlessly into daily life and address real-world challenges. Expanding access to innovative treatment options is considered vital for achieving lasting health benefits.

The UAE has positioned itself as the second country globally, following the United States, to approve this treatment for adults with obesity or overweight individuals encountering related health issues. This highlights the nation’s proactive stance in implementing groundbreaking healthcare solutions.

In the first phase of the rollout, the medication will be available at the Imperial College London Diabetes & Endocrine Centre. Eligible patients will participate in a holistic programme that includes personalized clinical guidance and digital health monitoring.

The treatment, known as Foundayo (orforglipron), is part of the GLP-1 receptor agonists class. It mimics a natural hormone that governs appetite and food intake, enhancing the effectiveness of weight management.

The program will cover this treatment for qualifying adults, ensuring improved access to necessary care. Health authorities are optimistic that this measure will encourage healthier lifestyles and foster long-term success.

This advancement signifies a substantial move towards enhancing Abu Dhabi’s healthcare system, showcasing a strong commitment to innovation, accessibility, and superior patient outcomes.
