Today, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) proudly opened the Zayed National Museum in the Saadiyat Cultural District of Abu Dhabi. This inauguration marks a significant moment as part of the UAE's 54th Eid Al Etihad festivities, attended by Supreme Council members, rulers, crown princes, and high-ranking officials. The museum honors the remarkable life and contributions of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the nation's Founding Father.
Showcasing the evolution of the UAE and its inhabitants, the museum employs innovative technology, captivating visual narratives, artefacts, and historical treasures to tell its story from ancient eras to today. Its architectural design draws inspiration from the wings of a falcon, representing the UAE's ambitious spirit and deep-rooted cultural ties.
H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan praised the museum as a testament to Sheikh Zayed's leadership and humanitarian vision, linking the UAE's rich past with its promising future while inviting exploration of its culture and heritage across generations.
On the opening day, H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed along with other dignitaries toured the museum's galleries. The exhibits encompass Sheikh Zayed's personal items, documents, photographs, audio clips, archival videos, and archaeological discoveries. Of the collection, over 3,000 pieces are housed, with 1,500 on display, each piece illustrating the UAE's vibrant history and narrative.
The museum comprises six permanent galleries: Our Beginning depicts Sheikh Zayed's life and the unification of the Emirates; Through Our Nature examines the country's natural environments and sustainable practices; To Our Ancestors offers archaeological evidence of human civilization spanning thousands of years; Through Our Connections delves into early communities and advances in science and technology; By Our Coasts celebrates the UAE's rich maritime heritage; and To Our Roots focuses on Emirati traditions, values, and historical economic practices.
With a dedicated area for temporary exhibitions and the expansive Al Masar Garden—600 meters of open-air displays showcasing landscapes and historical narratives—the museum provides a cultural program filled with live shows, interactive sessions, guided tours, and activities tailored for all ages, letting visitors delve into the UAE's history and heritage in both fun and enlightening ways.
The Zayed National Museum stands as a significant symbol reflecting the UAE's accomplishments and future aspirations. It honors Sheikh Zayed's legacy while encouraging upcoming generations to embrace the cultural values and vision that have shaped the nation. This institution offers both residents and visitors a unique chance to connect with the UAE's historical roots and grasp its modern journey.
