Adani to Build India’s Largest Battery Storage in Gujarat

Adani to Build India’s Largest Battery Storage in Gujarat

Post by : Badri Ariffin

The Adani Group is making a bold move into the battery energy storage sector with plans to build India’s largest and one of the world’s biggest single-location BESS installations. Located in Khavda, Gujarat, the project is slated for completion by March 2026.

This initiative marks a significant step in India’s renewable energy journey, combining cutting-edge technology with large-scale energy storage to strengthen grid reliability. The project will use over 700 lithium-ion battery containers, offering a power capacity of 1,126 MW and energy storage of 3,530 MWh — enough to supply full power for around three hours.

The facility will employ smart energy management systems to optimize electricity usage, shifting energy to peak-demand periods and reducing carbon emissions. Once operational, Khavda will become the largest combined renewable and storage park globally, supporting uninterrupted renewable power supply and grid stability.

Adani Group is not stopping here. The company plans to expand its storage portfolio by adding 15 GWh by March 2027 and reaching 50 GWh within five years. This scaling reflects a strong focus on building a modern, clean energy ecosystem capable of supporting India’s net-zero targets.

Battery energy storage is gaining momentum worldwide as solar and wind power generation grows. India alone is expected to reach about 800 MW in total BESS capacity this year, underlining the need for accelerated installations to meet the country’s goal of doubling clean energy capacity to 500 GW by 2030.

With this ambitious project, Adani Group positions itself at the forefront of India’s energy transition, combining innovation, sustainability, and scale to meet future energy demands.
