Since 1974, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has directed over AED9.4 billion towards transformative development projects in Jordan, focusing on critical sectors like healthcare, infrastructure, renewable energy, food security, and water resources.
This substantial investment embodies the enduring partnership between the UAE and Jordan, propelling significant economic advancements and enhancing public services and living standards across the nation.
Key projects elaborated by ADFD include the establishment of the Jordan Digital Health Centre (Virtual Hospital), expansions of grain silo capacities in Al Juwaideh and Aqaba, the Amman Development Corridor, the Sheikh Zayed Solar Power Complex in Quweira, and the Kufranja Dam project.
These initiatives align with Jordan's national development agenda, emphasizing advancements in healthcare, food and water security, clean energy, and infrastructure enhancement.
Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, the Director-General of ADFD, emphasized the historical ties binding the UAE and Jordan, grounded in collaboration and shared developmental aspirations. He noted that ADFD has been a pivotal player in Jordan’s development for many years, providing strategic investments that fostered economic and social progress.
In addition, Al Suwaidi highlighted that ADFD has managed AED4.6 billion under the Gulf Development Programme, supporting projects across healthcare, education, transport, energy, water, and food security sectors, with nearly AED4.459 billion distributed by 2016.
The Jordan Digital Health Centre was established in 2024, funded by a UAE grant under Jordan's Economic Modernisation Programme, aimed at connecting hospitals and healthcare facilities through a unified digital platform, enhancing healthcare services by streamlining medical records.
Initially, the system linked five hospitals and three healthcare centers, accelerating medical access and improving treatment quality. With a budget of US$100 million, the project is being carried out with Presight, forming an integral part of Jordan’s healthcare digital transformation.
To bolster food security, ADFD's investments amounting to AED258.7 million enabled the expansion of grain silo capacities in Al Juwaideh and Aqaba, thereby increasing storage capabilities to 250,000 tonnes in Al Juwaideh and 200,000 tonnes in Aqaba, supporting Jordan's National Food Security Strategy 2025.
In the infrastructure domain, ADFD’s funding of the Amman Development Corridor project significantly enhances transport connectivity among Amman, other governorates, and regional borders.
In 2013, ADFD funded the Sheikh Zayed Solar Power Complex in Quweira with AED551 million, generating 103 megawatts of electricity and delivering clean energy to over 50,000 households, mitigating reliance on imported fuel and optimizing energy expenses.
Moreover, the Kufranja Dam project has emerged as a vital water resource initiative in Jordan, with a storage capacity of 7 million cubic meters, supporting agricultural advancement, irrigation, and drinking water supply in Ajloun Governorate.
Beyond enhancing flood mitigation, the dam significantly strengthens water availability for agriculture, residential needs, and ecological development.
Additionally, the Abu Dhabi Exports Office (ADEX) has finalized a financing agreement with Capital Bank valued at AED73.4 million, aimed at facilitating trade activities and assisting UAE exporters in penetrating the Jordanian market.
With cumulative financing in Jordan exceeding AED9.4 billion by 2026, ADFD remains committed to fortifying economic and development cooperation between the UAE and Jordan through enduring investments in critical sectors that promote sustainable growth and regional stability.
