ADNOC Unveils Global LNG Trading Hub in Abu Dhabi

ADNOC Unveils Global LNG Trading Hub in Abu Dhabi

Post by : Badri Ariffin

ABU DHABI: ADNOC has officially unveiled a new global liquefied natural gas (LNG) trading and marketing hub at Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). This initiative integrates the LNG marketing efforts of ADNOC Gas and XRG, alongside the trading expertise of ADNOC Trading, all under one comprehensive commercial umbrella.

The platform aims to enhance flexibility in LNG marketing and logistics, supporting the expansion of ADNOC Gas’ LNG assets, which include the forthcoming Ruwais LNG project. It will provide global customers with improved access to LNG supplies, furthering XRG's international ambitions in gas and infrastructure.

Supporting Expansion in LNG Operations

This integrated approach consolidates ADNOC’s capabilities in LNG marketing, trading, and shipping, allowing for improved management of a diverse LNG portfolio.

The companies are targeting a combined LNG marketing volume of 47 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) by 2035. Achieving this goal will position them as leaders in the global LNG market while reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s status as a pivotal energy trading center.

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber: Addressing Global LNG Demand

Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, who serves as the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, ADNOC Managing Director, Group CEO, and XRG Executive Chairman, emphasized the need for dependable and scalable suppliers to meet the growing global demand for LNG.

He stated that the new commercial hub amalgamates ADNOC’s marketing, trading, and shipping operations into a single global center in Abu Dhabi, greatly enhancing the scale, flexibility, and commercial potential of ADNOC's LNG venture while addressing surging energy demands.

Appointment of Rashid Al Mazrouei as Chief Marketing Officer

ADNOC has named Rashid Al Mazrouei as Chief Marketing & Origination Officer (LNG), tasked with overseeing the marketing of the consolidated LNG equity portfolios of ADNOC Gas and XRG.

Set to operate from ADGM, Al Mazrouei will spearhead long-term LNG marketing operations and collaborate closely with ADNOC Trading to centralize LNG marketing efforts within the new platform.

He comes with a wealth of experience from ADNOC Gas, having been a reliable LNG supplier since 1977 and having delivered over 3,500 LNG shipments globally.

Maintaining Existing Commercial Structures

ADNOC has assured that current commercial LNG agreements with ADNOC Gas will remain unchanged.

Expectations are high for the new platform to enhance LNG marketing optimization, including future outputs from the Ruwais LNG project. Furthermore, the initiative will be bolstered by XRG's growing international LNG operations, with supply hubs and offices located in both London and Abu Dhabi.

ADNOC Trading's Role Remains Intact

Long-term LNG marketing will operate via the integrated platform, while ADNOC Trading will continue its trading operations. Existing customer interactions and relationships will be preserved.

In just four years, ADNOC Trading has established a formidable third-party LNG portfolio, ranking among the world's elite LNG financial traders with offices located in Abu Dhabi, Singapore, and Geneva.

LNG Shipping Network Boosts Platform Operations

Shipping is a crucial component of the new LNG platform.

By 2025, ADNOC Trading’s LNG shipping division is expected to rank among the foremost global LNG charterers, excelling in both physical shipping and freight derivatives.

In parallel, ADNOC L&S has bolstered its LNG fleet to 20 vessels, including 14 state-of-the-art two-stroke LNG carriers, further supporting UAE’s increasing LNG output and global trade.
