Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the President and CEO of Frontier25 and The Climate Tribe, engaged in dialogue with Professor Eric Xing, the President of Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), to explore potential collaborations on leveraging artificial intelligence for addressing climate challenges.
The discussion centered on converting AI research into tangible climate benefits, along with recent advancements in sustainability, climate science, and AI technology.
Additionally, they delved into K2 Think, an open-source AI reasoning platform introduced by MBZUAI and G42 in September, which is recognized as comparable to top global AI models and is viewed as a significant advancement in the UAE's AI development landscape.
MBZUAI has initiated various climate-oriented programs, including a weather forecasting training initiative in partnership with the University of Chicago aimed at equipping governments with localized weather forecasting capabilities for agriculture. The university also stands as a foundational knowledge partner of the United Nations Development Programme’s AI for Sustainable Development Platform (AI4SDP), set in motion following COP28.
Earlier in October, Sheikha Shamma welcomed the World Economic Forum Young Global Leaders at the From Heritage to Horizon program, featuring sessions at MBZUAI discussing how AI can foster a sustainable future.
Sheikha Shamma emphasized the transformative potential of AI in understanding environmental issues and devising strategies to safeguard the planet, underscoring the necessity for MBZUAI's innovative knowledge and technological advancements to serve global interests and bolster climate initiatives.
