Ajman Imposes New Guidelines for Pricing on Essential Goods

Ajman Imposes New Guidelines for Pricing on Essential Goods

Post by : Badri Ariffin

The Ajman Department of Economic Development (Ajman DED) has announced a new requirement for all businesses to obtain prior consent before adjusting the prices of essential goods within the emirate.

This regulation impacts all economic entities, encompassing suppliers, wholesalers, retailers, and distributors. Businesses are tasked with alerting the Ministry of Economy and Tourism via approved digital channels prior to any price revisions. Such requests must be accompanied by concrete economic justifications.

This initiative aligns with Ajman’s ongoing commitment to ensuring market stability, safeguarding consumer rights, and fostering pricing transparency. The aim is to guarantee that any price surge or adjustment is justified and based on sound economic reasoning.

As per the department, this regulation aligns with existing UAE legislation and is aimed at effectively monitoring market conditions. It also enhances collaboration between the public and private sectors to establish a balanced and sustainable economic setting.

The regulation covers a specified list of 29 essential goods deemed vital for consumers’ everyday needs. All businesses engaged with these products must adhere fully to the new stipulations.

Non-compliance with this directive may result in penalties, as authorities remain vigilant in regulating pricing practices within the local market.
