On Monday, Alberta will encounter a significant winter weather event, affecting both its northern and southern regions. Officials are issuing warnings for snow, high winds, and dangerous travel conditions.
Northern Alberta
The Peace Region, which includes Grande Prairie to the west and Athabasca to the east of Edmonton, is set to accumulate 15 to 30 centimeters of snow. Snowfall is expected to persist throughout Monday with only brief lulls. Residents should be prepared for slick roadways and reduced visibility.
Southern Alberta
Areas like Red Deer and Medicine Hat are under a winter storm watch. Anticipated heavy rain and flurries, along with strong winds until Tuesday, may render travel perilous. Meteorologists recommend delaying non-critical travel until conditions improve.
Rocky Mountains
The Rocky Mountain region will experience severe wind gusts reaching up to 100 km/h, impacting areas from Banff down to the Montana border. Outdoor activities could pose risks, and drivers are advised to remain vigilant of sudden changes in weather.
As winter conditions escalate, all residents in Alberta are encouraged to stay informed, exercise caution, and avoid unnecessary travel until the storm subsides.
