Indian Railways is set to launch the new Amritsar-New Jalpaiguri Amrit Bharat Express, offering improved rail connectivity between Punjab and West Bengal. The new weekly train service is expected to begin commercial operations soon.
The train will connect Amritsar in Punjab with New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal while passing through several important cities and towns in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Railway officials believe the new route will benefit thousands of long-distance passengers.
The Amrit Bharat Express has been developed by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai as an affordable modern train service for regular travellers. The train offers several upgraded passenger facilities while maintaining lower ticket prices compared to premium services.
According to the announced schedule, train number 14664 will depart from Amritsar every Thursday at 12:45 PM and reach New Jalpaiguri on Saturday at 4:15 AM. The return service, train number 14663, will leave New Jalpaiguri every Saturday at 8:00 AM and arrive in Amritsar on Monday at 2:20 AM.
The train will halt at 35 stations during its journey. Major stoppages include Jalandhar City, Ludhiana, Ambala Cantt, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Bareilly, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Raxaul, Sitamarhi, Forbesganj, Bagdogra and Siliguri.
Passengers from Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh are also expected to benefit significantly from the new service, especially in smaller towns where direct long-distance train connectivity remains limited.
Railway officials said the Amrit Bharat Express is part of Indian Railways’ plan to expand affordable modern train services across the country. The service mainly targets lower and middle-income travellers looking for better comfort during long journeys.
Travel experts believe the new train route will improve tourism and economic connectivity between northern and eastern India while also reducing travel difficulties for families, students and migrant workers.
