Post by : Badri Ariffin

Scheduled for April 25, 2026, the 8th Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy International Blitz Chess Tournament for Ladies will take place at the headquarters of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy in Abu Dhabi. This prestigious event is organized in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Abu Dhabi Chess Club & Mind Games.

Under the esteemed patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the tournament aligns with the directives of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Its purpose is to promote greater women’s involvement in mind sports and elevate the status of chess in female athletics.

Utilizing the Swiss system format, the tournament will feature nine rounds of engaging matches. Participants from various nations and age groups are expected, ensuring a rich and competitive atmosphere. The total prize pool amounts to AED 40,000, complemented by special recognition for standout competitors in different categories.

Abdullah Al Tamimi, representing the academy, remarked that this tournament exemplifies the academy’s commitment to enhancing women’s involvement in chess. He reiterated that events like these position the UAE and Abu Dhabi as frontrunners in hosting global sporting events.

Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of such tournaments in not only honing player skills and offering international exposure but also in advancing broader goals of empowering women and encouraging family participation, including support for People of Determination.

Al Tamimi also pointed out the significance of strong collaborations with partner organizations in ensuring the success of these events, which enhance organizational standards and broaden the reach of the academy’s initiatives.

This tournament is a key component of ongoing efforts to further develop mind sports and inspire more women to engage in competitive chess, contributing to the cultivation of sports excellence within the UAE.
