Surge in Foreign Smartphone Shipments in China: A 128% Increase in November

Surge in Foreign Smartphone Shipments in China: A 128% Increase in November

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Chinese smartphone shipments from foreign brands experienced significant growth in November, driven primarily by the popularity of Apple’s iPhones, as revealed by industry data.

According to figures calculated by Reuters from a government-affiliated research organization, foreign phone shipments jumped by 128.4% year-over-year, reaching 6.93 million units. This surge represents one of the most substantial monthly increases for international smartphone brands in China this year.

The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) reported that total mobile phone shipments in China grew by 1.9% compared to the same month last year, totaling 30.16 million units in November. While the overall market displayed modest growth, foreign brands notably outperformed local manufacturers.

Experts believe the increase is largely due to Apple’s renewed sales momentum, with its iPhone models leading among foreign smartphones in China. The seasonal demand linked to year-end promotions and an uptick in consumer trust toward high-end products also contributed to the rise in shipment figures.

The data from November indicates that foreign brands, after experiencing challenges earlier this year due to fierce local competition, managed to reclaim significant market share as Chinese buyers expressed greater interest in premium smartphones. Analysts are eager to see if this trend continues into the end of the year, especially as firms gear up for fresh product launches and holiday sales.
