Actor Arjun Rampal recently opened up about his personal experience during the tragic 2008 Mumbai attacks, revealing how the traumatic incident shaped his performance in his upcoming film Dhurandhar.
Speaking at the Hello Hall of Fame Awards held in Mumbai, Rampal recalled being present in the city on the night of November 26, 2008, when coordinated terrorist attacks shook the nation.
He shared that he was planning to celebrate his birthday with friends at the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, one of the main targets during the attacks. However, while at another hotel, he heard a loud explosion and initially mistook it for a gang-related incident. Within minutes, the seriousness of the situation became clear as news of multiple attacks across Mumbai spread rapidly.
Rampal described how the hotel he was in was immediately locked down for safety, and guests were not allowed to leave. He spent the night inside, witnessing the unfolding horror through updates and calls. The next morning, he said he felt physically sick while driving home after seeing the aftermath of the attacks.
The 26/11 attacks, carried out by terrorists linked to Pakistan-based groups, lasted nearly four days and claimed over 160 lives, targeting locations like the Taj Hotel, Oberoi Trident, CST railway station, and Nariman House. The incident remains one of the deadliest terror attacks in India’s history.
Reflecting on his film Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, Rampal said the role allowed him to revisit those painful memories and channel them into his performance. He described the experience as a form of “revenge,” not in a literal sense, but as a way to express the emotions and trauma he carried since that night.
The actor concluded his speech with a patriotic note, emphasizing resilience and unity, saying that the film helped him honor the spirit of those affected by the tragedy.
