Atletico Madrid secured a place in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League despite suffering a 1-2 defeat against Barcelona in the second leg of their quarter-final clash.
Atletico advanced on aggregate after their dominant 2-0 victory in the first leg, sealing qualification with a 3-2 overall score across both matches. Their earlier performance proved decisive in overcoming the second-leg setback.
Barcelona started the match strongly, taking an early lead through young star Lamine Yamal in the 4th minute, followed by another goal from Ferran Torres in the 24th minute, putting pressure on Atletico.
However, Atletico responded quickly as Ademola Lookman scored in the 31st minute to reduce the deficit, a goal that ultimately proved crucial in maintaining their aggregate advantage.
With this result, Atletico Madrid now awaits the winner of the quarter-final clash between Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon. Arsenal currently holds a slight advantage after winning the first leg away from home.
In another quarter-final fixture, Paris Saint-Germain continued their dominant form by defeating Liverpool 2-0 in the second leg, confirming their place in the semi-finals with a convincing overall performance.
Ousmane Dembele was the star of the match, scoring both goals for PSG in the 72nd minute and again in stoppage time, securing another comfortable win for the defending champions.
PSG had also won the first leg with the same scoreline at Parc des Princes, completing a comprehensive double victory over Liverpool in the quarter-finals.
Looking ahead, PSG will face the winner of the clash between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Bayern currently leads 2-1 from the first leg, with the decisive return match set to take place in Munich.
