Bahrain Denounces Iranian Drone Strike as a Sovereignty Breach

Bahrain Denounces Iranian Drone Strike as a Sovereignty Breach

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Bahrain has issued a strong condemnation of an Iranian drone strike that targeted its territory early on Saturday, labeling it a significant breach of the nation's sovereignty and a direct hazard to the safety of its citizens and residents.

In an official communication, Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs referred to the drone incident as an explicit violation of the Kingdom's sovereignty. The ministry further indicated that this act poses a clear threat to the security of Bahraini citizens and inhabitants and contravenes international laws that prohibit attacks on civilian facilities and intimidation of civilians.

The ministry pointed out that Iran's ongoing assaults occur while regional and global efforts are concentrating on de-escalating tensions. The statement held Tehran fully accountable for undermining these peace initiatives. Furthermore, Bahrain accused Iran of promoting instability in the region, contributing to chaos, and eroding security throughout its territories.

Additionally, the ministry referenced United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), which was presented on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and Jordan. It highlighted that 136 nations supported this resolution, showcasing broad international consensus on the matter.

Bahrain stated that Iran's ongoing attacks directly challenge this international consensus. The ministry emphasized that Tehran had agreed under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding to cease military actions and respect the sovereignty of neighboring nations.

Reaffirming its stance, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared Bahrain's legitimate right to protect its sovereignty, security, and stability in accordance with international law. Bahrain also called on the United Nations Security Council to undertake its obligations by ensuring the enforcement of Resolution 2817 (2026) and holding the aggressor accountable.
