Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, the beloved stars of The Mummy series, are set to bring their characters back for a highly anticipated fourth installment. Fraser referred to this endeavor as “the one I wanted to make” and expressed that he's been looking forward to this moment for almost 20 years.
“The project I always envisioned was never realized… But now, the opportunity I’ve long hoped for is coming to fruition. I’ve awaited this call for two decades. Sometimes the desire was strong, other times it felt like a distant whisper. But now? It’s time to give the fans what they’ve been craving,” Fraser shared.
The movie will be helmed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, collectively known as Radio Silence. Fraser joined The Mummy franchise in 1999, transforming a classic Universal monster into an action-packed adventure. The franchise rapidly evolved, introducing Dwayne Johnson and branching into spin-offs, although it stalled after 2008's Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. A proposed reboot featuring Tom Cruise was nearly realized a decade later but ultimately fell through.
Recently, Fraser reflected on his earlier films, particularly on George of the Jungle. “I carry many cherished memories from that era. I also recall feeling hungry at times,” he joked, reminiscing about an old picture of himself with Leslie Mann and the Tookie Tookie bird. He fondly remembered Mann's wit and the bird's sharp claws.
In discussing more recent projects, Fraser praised young talent Sadie Sink, stating, “Oh my gosh, that’s me with Sadie Sink. I feel incredibly fortunate to have collaborated with an actress of her caliber so early in her career… She truly is wonderful.”
He also described the filming of Rental Family on a moving train as a “whirlwind of activity,” merging extras with regular travelers, labeling the film as “a love letter to solitude” dedicated to Tokyo and its cherry blossoms.
