Inspiring Cardoso Family Makes Waves at Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Championship

Post by : Maya Rahman

The Cardoso family's journey at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2025 is nothing short of inspiring. Making their mark this year, they arrived with eleven young competitors, including their kids, who participated in various youth categories. Their collective spirit turned the championship atmosphere into a joyful family gathering, with each young athlete representing their family’s dedication and determination.

Among these young competitors, 13-year-old Kayron Cardoso took on the Boys Gi Junior Grey 34 kg division. He showcased immense grit, winning his initial two matches. Unfortunately, he faced a setback in his third match, missing out on a medal. Despite this outcome, Kayron expressed pride in his effort, highlighting the lessons learned and his ambition to return even stronger. His resilience earned him admiration throughout the venue.

Despite not landing on the podium, the day was still bright for the Cardoso family, with three silver medals and one bronze awarded to Kaynan, Marco, Kyllian, and Nathalie. Witnessing their siblings and cousins succeed together created cherished moments filled with emotion and pride, demonstrating their unwavering support for each other at every corner of the arena.

Known for their dedication to jiu-jitsu in Angola, the Cardoso family trains at Z1 Academy, an esteemed martial arts institution deeply woven into their everyday lives. Their passion is evident, as their father and uncles hold black belts, with one sporting a purple belt, affirming their long-standing family tradition that inspires their discipline and fervor for the sport.

Adding to their adventure in Abu Dhabi, grandmother Filomena Silva cheered passionately from the stands, her pride in her grandchildren amplifying their journey's emotional weight. They also honor the memory of their late grandfather, General Flavio Alves Cardoso, a respected military figure whose values of discipline guide the family both in sports and life.

Kayron expressed his desire to win a gold medal, yet emphasized his pride in competing at such a significant event. The support from his family provided him additional motivation, and the year-long training they shared culminated in this dream opportunity.

For the Cardoso family, jiu-jitsu transcends being just a sport; it’s a way of life. The wisdom of their grandfather, emphasizing discipline as a cornerstone, has influenced their training regimen and goals. Embracing losses as learning opportunities, Kayron reflected on his father's guiding principle that losing translates to learning, which fueled his determination.

The Cardoso family’s remarkable spirit and commitment have accentuated their role as standout figures in the championship. Their journey exemplifies that jiu-jitsu extends beyond medals; it’s about character-building, nurturing passion, and upholding a rich family tradition, leaving a lasting impression at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2025.
