Brampton Resident Faces Charges Following Etobicoke Hit-and-Run

Brampton Resident Faces Charges Following Etobicoke Hit-and-Run

Post by : Shweta

A 40-year-old resident of Brampton has been charged following a hit-and-run incident in Etobicoke that left a pedestrian in critical condition.

The incident occurred on Saturday night in the Rexdale neighborhood, close to the junction of Albion Road and Islington Avenue. Officials from the Toronto Police Service reported that they received calls about a serious pedestrian collision around 9:23 p.m.

According to investigators, a 58-year-old man was on the sidewalk when a red Toyota Corolla, heading westward, veered into the opposite lanes and drove onto the sidewalk, hitting the pedestrian before accelerating into a nearby parking lot.

Authorities stated that the vehicle also collided with a fence and two parked cars before the driver fled on foot. Emergency responders transported the critically injured pedestrian to the hospital. Two occupants of the vehicle were also taken to hospital, suffering minor injuries.

The suspect, identified as Suraju Ishau, surrendered to the police the following day. He has been arrested and faces several charges, including dangerous driving resulting in bodily harm and failing to remain at the scene of the incident.

The accused is set to appear in bail court as the investigation is ongoing. Police are urging anyone with further information about the incident to step forward.

This case underscores the pressing issue of road safety, particularly incidents involving hit-and-runs, prompting authorities to remind drivers of their legal obligations to stay at the scene and provide assistance after an accident.
