OpenAI has initiated its first nationwide campaign for ChatGPT in India, with the goal of enhancing AI accessibility and localization for Indian users. This multifaceted campaign will utilize television, OTT platforms, digital media, print, and outdoor outlets over the upcoming weeks to reach a broad audience nationwide.
Emphasizing support for regional languages and voice-first capabilities, the campaign illustrates how ChatGPT can assist in learning, preparation, and creative expression in people's preferred languages. It builds upon recent initiatives aimed at the Indian market, including a Study Mode for students, an affordable ChatGPT Go subscription option, and IndQA, a benchmark assessing AI performance within Indian languages and cultural contexts.
Central to the campaign are two short films directed by celebrated photographer and filmmaker Bharat Sikka. Each film portrays relatable Indian scenarios showcasing how ChatGPT empowers users to build confidence and tackle obstacles. The films will be produced in seven languages: Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu, reflecting ChatGPT's commitment to localization.
According to Sheeladitya Mohanty, Head of Marketing – India at OpenAI, “Our intention is to make ChatGPT more intuitive, natural, and culturally relevant in Indian languages. This campaign shares authentic stories of individuals leveraging ChatGPT for learning, creativity, and communication in their preferred language.”
The initial film is now available and features a young woman preparing for a job interview with the assistance of ChatGPT. These videos can be accessed on YouTube and Instagram, in addition to appearing on TV, streaming services, print media, and outdoor advertising for broad visibility and engagement.
Additionally, OpenAI has announced that eligible users in India have enjoyed 12 months of complimentary access to ChatGPT Go since early November. This offer is available through web, Android, and iOS platforms, allowing a larger user base to explore the AI features across various devices.
