A senior Chinese diplomat has reiterated China’s steadfast support for a political and diplomatic solution to the ongoing Ukraine crisis. Speaking after the UN General Assembly voted on the draft resolution titled “Support for lasting peace in Ukraine,” Teng Fei, counselor of the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations, emphasized that China hopes the international community will take concrete steps to create favorable conditions for dialogue and negotiation, aiming to achieve a sustainable resolution.
Teng highlighted that China abstained from the vote, a decision reflecting its long-standing principles and consistent stance on the issue. He stressed that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations must be respected, the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter upheld, and legitimate security concerns of all parties properly addressed.
The diplomat underscored that China encourages all efforts conducive to peace, urging relevant parties to maintain positive momentum, engage in intensive dialogue, and work toward building broad international consensus. He further noted that addressing the root causes of the Ukraine crisis is critical to establishing a more balanced, effective, and sustainable European security framework. By doing so, long-term peace, stability, and security across Europe could be ensured, providing a foundation for cooperative international relations and preventing further escalation of the conflict.
China continues to position itself as a diplomatic actor committed to fostering negotiation, dialogue, and consensus-building while promoting adherence to international law and respect for national sovereignty.
