Correctional Service Canada officials have announced a considerable haul of contraband and unauthorized items at the Archambault Institution, a multi-security level federal prison situated in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines. This operation unfolded on April 7, 2026, due to the vigilance of the facility's staff.
The operation led to the confiscation of illegal substances like cocaine, hashish, and shatter, in addition to tobacco products and cell phone accessories. The total value of these items is estimated to be around $75,000, underscoring the significant smuggling attempts within the institution.
Officials stressed that thwarting the entry of drugs and unauthorized items into correctional facilities is of utmost importance. The Correctional Service has implemented advanced security protocols, including the use of ion scanners and specially trained dogs to detect contraband. These measures involve searching inmates, visitors, premises, and personal belongings.
Additionally, authorities have ramped up efforts to bolster security within federal institutions. Collaboration with law enforcement is ongoing to identify and tackle individuals engaged in the smuggling or trafficking of illegal goods into prisons, as such activities pose significant risks to the safety of inmates, staff, and visitors alike.
Public vigilance is also encouraged, with authorities urging the reporting of suspicious activities. A confidential tip line has been established to allow for anonymous reporting, thereby contributing to ongoing efforts aimed at ensuring a safe and secure environment in correctional facilities.
In summary, the recent seizure highlights the unwavering commitment of correctional authorities to effectively combat contraband smuggling and reinforce control measures within Canada's prison system.
