Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan Tours Jebel Ali Port to Assess Trade Developments

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Dubai's Crown Prince and UAE Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, conducted a visit to Jebel Ali Port, managed by DP World, to evaluate operational activities and trade efficacy.

Throughout the visit, he received updates on the port’s impressive operational outputs and its expanding multimodal logistics framework, which includes both road and rail connections. In just two months, DP World has successfully managed nearly 200,000 TEUs via regional truck and rail pathways, showcasing robust supply chain resilience.

He commended the teams maintaining exceptional operational efficiency, facilitating seamless global trade flow through one of the crucial maritime hubs worldwide. He emphasized that Dubai’s achievements in global trade stem from strategic planning, robust infrastructure, and a capacity to interlink markets globally.

The Crown Prince pointed out that Jebel Ali Port has been pivotal in Dubai's economic evolution for close to five decades, bolstering regional as well as global supply chains while ensuring continuous trade activities under all circumstances.

He also highlighted Dubai's ongoing commitment to enhancing multimodal connectivity and investing in cutting-edge infrastructure to bolster supply chain efficiency and reinforce its status as an international trade center.

Facilities Highlighted During the Visit

During his tour, Sheikh Hamdan inspected three significant facilities:

  • Jebel Ali Rail Terminal, linking the port to the national railway with a capacity for 800,000 TEUs annually, along with future expansion plans to achieve 1.6 million TEUs.

  • BOXBAY automated storage system, designed as a high-bay container storage solution to enhance port capacity effectively.

  • Terminal 2 operations control room, one of the essential monitoring centers of the port.

The rail terminal currently supports up to eight daily services, enabling expedited cargo movement and improving multimodal logistics integration.

Significance of Jebel Ali Port

The Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), together with Jebel Ali Port, represents a vital logistics and industrial center, serving approximately 12,000 firms across various sectors including manufacturing, logistics, retail, healthcare, automotive, and food.

As the largest port in the Middle East, Jebel Ali Port stands as a critical gateway for global commerce, linking enterprises across continents and aligning with Dubai’s long-term economic objectives.

DP World consistently invests in automation, digital advancements, and transport connections to minimize turnaround times while enhancing the resilience of global supply chains.

Operating across six continents, the organization boasts a workforce exceeding 125,000, more than 300 freight forwarding offices, and an extensive maritime fleet aiding international trade.
