On Thursday morning, a severe train accident in the Czech Republic resulted in injuries to 57 individuals, including at least five with serious trauma. The incident occurred near Ceske Budejovice, situated in the southern part of the nation.
The crash transpired around 6:20 am local time, roughly 74 miles south of Prague. One of the involved trains was an express service. Rapid response from fire and rescue teams ensured the safe evacuation of passengers from both trains.
Health facilities in Ceske Budejovice confirmed that five people were treated for serious injuries, while others received care for minor injuries either on-site or at local medical centers.
Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka noted that preliminary investigations indicate that one train may have ignored a stop signal, potentially leading to the collision. The precise cause of the crash is still under review.
The incident has led to significant disruptions in rail traffic between Ceske Budejovice and Plzen, with train operations expected to remain suspended until at least the afternoon as teams work on track clearance and resuming services.
Local authorities and emergency personnel are actively collaborating to support passengers and uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident. Travelers in the affected area are encouraged to stay informed before making any travel plans.
